MLB Vice President of Design Services Ms. Anne Occi commissioned the Sports Design Agency of Chicago to develop an alternate uniform set for the Toronto Blue Jays to coincide with the 2020 season with two key creative direction mandates: Number one - merge the current Blue Jays team jersey fonts and numbers into an alternate look reflective of teams’ inaugural 1977 season uniforms when the team wore powder blue “pullover tops”.  A key request was swap “TORONTO” with “BLUE JAYS” across the front centre of the team jersey and instead of using a pullover style uniform move to a button-down front. Number two – go through an all-out possibilities exploration to challenge what a traditional MLB uniform might look for the Blue Jays team caps and jersey tops. Ultimately, the Blue Jays and MLB settled on a classic style team uniform which pays homage to the 1977 Blue Jays original expansion identity, but incorporates modern Nike fabrication enhancements.
